The Pearl Foundation, Inc., an affiliate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Theta Alpha Omega Long Beach Chapter, is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation. In existence since 1992, the Pearl Foundation and the predecessor organization, Theta Alpha Omega Chapter, have addressed issues facing our communities with specific emphasis on our young people.  Signature programs have included providing scholarships to college bound students, and implementing ongoing leadership-building projects at the middle and high school levels.


The Pearl Foundation is an IRS approved 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.  The Pearl Foundation will continue its fundraising projects throughout the year on behalf of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Scholarship Program.  Proceeds from our various fund-raising efforts will benefit our Scholarship and Emerging Young Leaders Programs.

Mission Statement

The Foundation’s Mission is to sponsor projects that benefit the undeserved in the greater Long Beach, Carson, Compton, and San Pedro communities. By offering personal and financial support to our neighbors, we strive to improve the lives of those we serve.

 

The Foundation is comprised of African American, college-trained women. Their backgrounds and experiences cover a variety of disciplines, including technology, medicine, dentistry, law, engineering, marketing, education, nonprofit, public policy, etc. They donate their time and expertise to develop creative and innovative programs for the foundation, while also leveraging partnerships with individuals, businesses and government to further the mission of the organization.

Your donations will provide scholarships for deserving young students who do not have the financial means to attend college without our help.  We hope you will join us in the opportunity to educate our youth and prepare them to be a part of our next generation of leaders.  

Awareness Knowledge Action Leadership Program

 

 The Awareness Knowledge Action Leadership Program is a  mentoring program providing young students with opportunities to develop leadership skills and make objective choices in a supportive group setting with experienced adult leaders. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Theta Alpha Omega Chapter and The Pearl Foundation provide overall supervision and leadership discussions for the participants. Monthly presentations are designed to enhance the students’ skills and broaden their horizons as they prepare to meet the challenges of society. All activities are well planned and presented by experts in the field by community leaders and members of Theta Alpha Omega Chapter. Some of the topics presented have been: College Preparation, Building Self Esteem, Financial Empowerment, Friendship, Self Defense, Health and Good Nutrition. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding program participants.  Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Theta Alpha Omega Chapter, The Pearl Foundation and David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach have been partners with this sponsored membership program since 2007.

 

Emerging Young Leaders Program

This signature program will impact the lives of thousands of girls in grades six through eight by providing leadership development, civic engagement, enhanced academic preparation and character building. The increasing demands of the twenty-first century mandate our youth to be better leaders at a younger age making smart choices with positive consequences.
